I had the opportunity to visit Ft. Pierce with some friends. Part of the trip includes checking out a cool new restaurant in the downtown area called Taco Dive. I design and build restaurants for a career and was impressed with the simple decor and aesthetics. Efficient layout with plenty of room for people to sit and enjoy the local fare and with quality and friendly staff. Drinks were always full. Food came out timely and was very fresh. While at this "Hip Dive" I highly recommend the Drunken Burrito. Good amount of food and is packed with flavor. If your hungry, this is going to fill you right up. Definitely add fried egg and bacon. It may be a life changing experience. If your into spicy food, the Cajun Shrimp taco is da bomb. Fresh shrimp and all the fixins with a nice Cajun flare. The fish taco is always local fresh fish and you can taste it. Not as spicy as the Cajun shrimp but still exploding with flavor. Fresh guacamole everyday you just can't be beat. Another big plus is they constantly are looking to keep local microbrews on tap. A feature that I am sure most will enjoy. If your in the area I highly recommend going for a visit. Their a la carte menu allows for an affordable meal of fresh and delicious food couple a calm, friendly, and relaxing atmosphere. Great location to other shops and a killer microbrewery just a block down the road. Minutes to the water, and all by walking.

Very fresh and yummy dishes. Guacamole was fresh and delicious. I had the taco salad with chicken. Yum!!! If people want to complain about their higher prices....then go to Taco Bell. Food of this quality and freshness costs more. Plain and simple. Great place.

Fantastic service and incredibly fresh food! Will definitely visit again. Treasure coast lacks any type of good Mexican/Taco places and this place hits the nail on the head! Nice place to hang out with friends for dinner.

Wow. I met the entire staff and this place is where to be in Fort Pierce. Chef Joel AND THE STAFF are amazing and super nice. I recommend sitting at the bar order an Islamorada Beer and just take it all in. The kitchen is next to the bar so you get to see all the action. They have great beers on tap (my favorite is Islamorada Ale-nice and light). I have the steak tacos, they were very filling and delicious. I cannot wait to come back and tryout the rest of the menu. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

After a couple of visits, I feel confident giving a five star rating to Taco Dive. We're Vero Beach residents, which makes Taco Dive about a 30 minute trip for us. A drive, I should mention, which is worthwhile. As you walk up, it is immediately obvious that the owners of this local "dive" invested in a well chosen look that is equal parts modernism and restoration hardware, without putting off the vibe that you're overpaying for the atmosphere. There's a very crafty looking backlit Taco Dive sign inside that I find really endearing. The feeling instilled by the decor turned out to be obvious foreshadowing of the care invested in the food. Let me get this out of the way up front. The steak tacos at Taco Dive are tenderloin. Depending on your persuasion, this is either a delight, or a disaster. Personally, while I love the flavor of a marinated-to-tenderness flank steak, tenderloin needs no such mending. The steak tacos at Taco Dive are the best I've ever had. The tenderloin is cooked just shy of medium well and full of flavor. My heart rate goes up 5 bpm just thinking about them. They're an absolute standout. Honestly, having sampled all the major meet groups (chicken, pork, and beef), there's not a loser in the bunch. They're all A-players. We've also sampled sides such as their home made salsa and queso. The queso, by the way, starts out as an actual block of cheese. Great cheese does not flow at room temperature, so enjoy hastily, as this cheese will return to its natural form of left too long. Ample chips are provided for enjoying the starters. One last noteworthy mention is a special taco whose name I cannot remember. This little oddity is a hot dog taco with mustard and the usual cabbage, pico, and sauce. I cannot say that the flavor was love at first bite for me, but by the end of the taco, Stockholm Syndrome has set in, and I was fully in love with my captor. The staff at the restaurant have been consistently polite and expedient. We tend to take a long time to order, which can frustrate staff. The wait staff have been patient and pleasant of both of our visits. Overall, a definite must-visit for locals and out-of-town visitors alike.

Every item on the menu is "a party in your mouth" good. Been several times and several times in one day. Go. Today. If you have not been, you're missing out. BLT, pork, and plain ol' beef are every visit options. Feeling brave; get the underdog. Best special: chicken and waffles taco. (I know, right?!?!? Mind blown!)

After having to leave 2nd street bistro for utter lack of service, I walked to taco dive. So good! The vibe is good, service was great, beer was cold and tacos were superb. Great place.

I had a taste for authentic tacos and came across this spot that's located in downtown Fort Pierce. The atmosphere (ambiance) is nice, the staff and service was pleasant and great . The price is right ($). The food is made to order (FRESH) and and the servings were good as well. I had the shrimp BLT taco (my Fav) and the pulled pork with pineapples (awesome). They also have other food choices but I prefer the tacos! I'm defiantly coming back, this place is WORTH THE VISIT!!

Great place! Perfect spot for a great taco and a cold beer. Love the queso! The place is a comfortable fun place and the server was very pleasant and helpful. Can't wait to go back!

We drove a bit out of our way to try this place and I must admit it was absolutely worth it! The only thing you will struggle with is narrowing down your choice from their menu. We started with chips and queso which was recommended by our waitress. They even brought us extra chips when we ran low. When it came time to order tacos, I had four that sounded good, but I only wanted to get two tacos. I mentioned the four that I was interested in and let our waitress decide for me. She picked the Under Dog and the Irish. The Under Dog was spectacular and I will definitely get it again next time we come, which will probably be soon. My wife also had two tacos, the steak and a shrimp BLT. She loved them both. This is a small, casual restaurant. The food was great, the service was great, and the prices are very reasonable. Give it a try!

Good, fresh food with a short, creative menu. Definitely divey and small but not too loud or cramped. The chips were light on the salt - a welcome change from most places - and the salsa was definitely fresh. We had medium, which had some heat but was on the milder side. I had their BLT Taco - bacon, pimento cheese, fried egg and some greens. Tasty. The shrimp taco was on the small side but tasted fine. Worth a visit.

Holy cow! This place was awesome! We were looking for Mexican food in the area and saw this on yelp. My hubs had the burrito and I had the cilantro chicken taco. We also tried the guac and chips. Everything was fabulous! The salsa was amazing. Even the sweet tea was yummy! Wish we were in town longer to try some more yummies!

  • Anna H.

I love this place! Their blackened shrimp tacos are amazing. I'm so happy that Fort Pierce finally got a decent place to have lunch and dinner! The only drawback is the price. You pay a lot for a little amount of food. Guac wasn't that great, but the queso is awesome! I highly recommend.

I really enjoyed my food definitely coming again! Liked the guacamole and the salsa. I got the fish of the day and the chicken yummy. Relaxed atmosphere and good service:)

Upon entering we found a fun funky vibe. Our waitress was fast friendly and helpful. I tried the steak taco since she said it was the most popular. Now I know why, such tenderness and flavor all in one soft taco! Hubby had the beef taco, so good he ordered another. And for only about $5 a pop, we will definitely be back. Can't wait to try other varieties.

Great dining experience. Laid back 'dive' theme but the food is delicious. Fresh homemade salsas spiced to order with jalapeños. Try the steak taco it is tender, served medium and seasoned well. Fish taco with mahi was also very good. Great first date place to break the ice and have some fun. Beers on tap and good assortment of wine as well. I'll be back.

I usually do my reviews on Urbanspoon but I have to say I almost completely disagree with Chef C. First, I have a toddler and we felt just as welcome as any other patron...so I think the comment about not being kid friendly was a crock. The bar wasn't full or even loud in the slightest. I also didn't find $4.95 for a kid's meal to be overpriced and we eat out regularly. Nor did I think that $4.50-5 for a stuffed taco to be too expensive. $2.50 for a side is too much for your budget? Why because it brings the total meal price up to $7-8? You can't even get a good burger with a side of fries for $8. The comment about having your plate on your lap...who eats a taco straight over their lap?? That made me giggle...Most civilized folk eat over their plates regardless of if it's a taco or not. I had the chipotle chicken taco too and thought it was full of flavor and I liked the cilantro sauce. The Irish taco was good too, the crumbled tater tot inside added a crunchy texture and the corn beef was ultra-tender. I think the loaded tots could use a little more imagination (just queso & jalapeno), but both the regular salsa and the hot tomatillo were good and the chips fresh. I do agree that the fish tacos should be a different kind of fish, I'm so over Mahi and think it's more for tourists. I'd pick grouper, snapper, tuna (hey -ahi tacos), sea trout, etc. I think the shrimp taco should've had cabbage instead of lettuce, but that's just another personal preference. As an artist I love the décor, lots of things were reclaimed, the springs from a mattress were turned into lighting, pallets on the walls, growlers (including one from Sailfish Brewery down the street) were made into handing lamps above the bar and the bar top itself was made out of old doors and the tables made out of pipes and shellacked wood (awesome). My last comment to Chef C. is if you left starving it's because you were too cheap to spend an additional $2.50 for a side or $5 for chips salsa. Maybe your issue is you were tasting the food with your "pallet" instead of you palate..silly chef. Lastly, I have no affiliation with the restaurant just hate to see a good place go down based on the ravings of someone who probably just didn't get a job there.

  • Chef C.

Let me start by saying my wife and I were extremely excited that downtown Fort Pierce was getting a new flavor and option to eat... Unfortunately, we were both extremely disappointed. Let me make this statement very very clear. There are 3 reasons that I will never ever ever eat there again. 1. The price is way too high for a "taco", no matter the type of meat. The price on the sides are so expensive that you do not want to order anything else. So you starve while waiting on your entree'. (Hint, if your going to charge $5.00 for a single taco, the least you could do is serve the patrons "eating" there some of your salsa and chips without charge.) Now I knew going in this new restaurant that their prices on the tacos seems a bit steep , but I was optimistic and hoped that the quality of meats and fusions of flavors would overshadow the thoughts in my mind that I just spent $5.00 on a single taco. Once again, I was not impressed. 2. Lack of flavors. I ordered the "fire roasted chicken" taco, blah.... Zero flavor in the chicken (not even a hint of fire flavor, or anything else for that matter), oh and the chicken was not diced, it was pulled and mushy. The flavor of their "house" cilantro sour cream sauce was very bland but was the only reason I was able to eat the entire taco, other than the fact that I was starving still, and did not want to waste my $5.00 entirely. My wife ordered the "fish" taco... Blah once again. Standard mahi mahi taco that literally everybody serves, except for this one is also flavorless and wet, make sure you have your plate covering your lap, otherwise you will end up with fish and other juices all over you. As soon as they delivered the tacos to our table my wife and I both looked at what they served us visually, we were disappointed, literally nothing special about it, other than the fact that we just realized how much we paid for a visually plain taco, even worse, the small amount of "meat" they put on it verses veggies was also disappointing. Last but not least, the last reason I will never ever eat there again nor recommend this place to anyone is: 3. I left the restaurant starving... Not only were we visually disappointed, our pallets were duped In to thinking "it's a $5.00 taco, it has to be great right?" WRONG! And yes the size of it, not enough meat, and only "1" taco. A very small taco, seriously, Taco Bell size.... I do not go to a restaurant hoping it's not good I assure you. I try to find the good if there is any bad, I note that too. In my opinion as a food critic and a chef, they have a great ambiance and setting. Not kid friendly, more beer patron friendly. Maybe the type of customer who they serve best is a beer drinker whose pallet is shot from the beer and everything taste good. You are far better off saving your money and eating somewhere else. At least you won't eat a tiny flavorless meal and be starving when you leave. My recommendations to "Taco Dive", if your going to serve a $5.00 taco, add some serious flavor, add more meat, make a different type of fish taco other than mahi mahi, make and serve different types of salsa, offer traditional salsa and chips for free to "dining" patrons. Come down on the prices for the sides as well as kids meals. I would like to try it again if they decide to change several things, but from me... 2 thumbs down and 1 star.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
